When you first visit Ciao you will see a page containing links organised by category. In the top right hand corner of the screen are three links one of which is entitled ‘Join Ciao’. Having entered some basic information about yourself you will be registered with Ciao and can now log in to the system using the ‘Login’ link next to the ‘Join Ciao’ link you have just used.

Now you are logged in the first place to visit is the ‘Member Centre’. Again, the link is easy to locate in the top right hand corner of your screen. Ciao has three pay levels currently. Some categories pay half a penny per read, some pay one penny per read and some pay two pence per read. In addition, the payment is doubled for reviews that are the first on a particular product for the first month of their presence. Also, each month, well written reviews receive a percentage of what is called the ‘Premium Fund’. This is a pot of money that is shared amongst reviews that have attracted considerable praise for their content. Aiming for the ‘Premium Fund’ is important because the payout is good. The trick then is to know how to increase the number of people reading your opinion. The answer lies in the community aspect of the site. So, the best strategy is to locate the product you wish to write about, write the review and then head straight on over to the new reviews list in the member centre. Now, settle on in and start reading and rating reviews written by other people. As you follow the link to read their review, when you arrive at the bottom you can leave a rating as to how helpful the review was. Once you have left your rating, head back to the new reviews list and keep on working your way down. Many of those whose reviews you read and rate will return the favour.
